What’s something cool about Social Studies?
Everything! Social Studies helps develop critical thinking skills while teaching cool things about the world. Way better than math.
What do you do when you’re not working at SPP?
Coach and play lacrosse. Play hockey. Travel and take pictures.
How did you spend your summer?
Traveling and hanging out with friends.
Where is the best place you’ve ever lived or visited and why?
The best place I’ve visited is Russia; it was so cool to be fully immersed in a culture and to experience so many parts of a country. I got to meet many people along the way and see a lot of amazing sites.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done?
So many to choose from, probably just being able to live and travel abroad for 2 years. Getting to travel to over 20 countries was great to experience.
What do you find fascinating?
History – All the messed up and funny little stories that do not get included in the standard history stories.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Antarctica – just to be there and see the continent. I would love to take pictures and see some of the wildlife up close.
If you weren’t teaching, what job would you want?
Being a writer/researcher – I would love to take time to just research and write about a historical topic.
Have you ever experienced culture shock? When and how did you deal with it?
For sure! Living in China for two years was a total eye opener, especially since it was my first real experience outside the country.
Tell me something interesting or unique about yourself.
In high school and college I took classes to study Spanish, German, and Russian.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
Everything, I love teaching about the content that is involved in Social Studies. I also love interacting with the students and getting to know them.
